Rare 1890 Colorado TPA Convention "Pure Silver" Embossed Railroad Flat Pass

Diagonal scenic and type design sections, "T.P.A. Convention Denver, Colorado 1890 Pass Bearer Denver Rio Grande R.R., Colorado Midland R.R. and Union Pacific R.R." in lower/right half, embossed "Toltec Gorge" mountainous design with train upper left emerging from tunnel and TPA moniker embossed in middle (signed Beddo middle at bottom of scenic design) - Excellent condition, one of the rarest and most decorative 1800s railroad silver Railroad passes - Issued at the 1890 Travelers' Protective Association (T.P.A.) annual convention in Denver, Colorado, this thin, embossed card is struck in silver and measures 3.25" x 2." It was used to "Pass Bearer" on all Colorado rails including the Denver & Rio Grande RR, Colorado Midland RR, Union Pacific RR, as well as the Santa Fe RR (although not specifically shown on the card). Delegates attending the annual event were entitled to other benefits such as special concessions at hotels and other transportation agencies. Info page from collector's estate describes the origins and use of this flat pass and reasons for it's rarity. The Colorado Midland Railroad, not mentioned on that page, traveled up Ute pass around Pikes Peak to Cripple Creek and is presumed to have offered the attendees of the Convention a trip through those scenic mountain passes (see last photo). A faint additional inscription "COLO GOLD AND SILVER M.F.G. CO., Denver. PURE COLORADO SILVER." appears at the bottom of the card. The card is nicely engraved and ornamented. Very few are known to exist and the few that have made it to the secondary market have reached a high premium with heavy bidding. see photos for details and conditions
